There's probably nothing that can really be said to make you feel better - it will take some time for you to heal. You shouldn't feel like this is your fault, it's just a terrible accident that nobody saw coming. Cat's are so adventurous, and sometimes it gets them into trouble. You obviously loved him a lot, so at least during the time he had with you, he was loved and cared for. If you eventually decide to get another cat, may I recommend you adopt one from an animal shelter - there are so many great animals that need a loving home, and that would be a nice thing for you to do in memory of your poor kitten. I know several people that this has happened to - it seems to be a common danger for a cat owners. I have had many cats over the years, and several of them died of various causes.
