do the math.. it's not just the cost of the material.. it's the workers.. the electiricity, the building.. the shipping.. add on to that the mark up.. as stores aren't going to sell something they aren't making any money on.. (as they also have employees to pay, property taxes, and general upkeep)

Most clothing is not needed for dogs.. I live just fine with nothing more then a sweater for each of my dogs.. (I live in an area that gets lots of snow.. and I have dogs that I keep groomed well all year)

If you want to cut the price down.. go to a fabric store, look through the books and find patterns you can make for yourself..

Why are people wanting to dress up animals?
Stop being ridiculous then it wouldn't be so ridiculously expensive!

Because people will pay that.

Why is a cheaply made thin t-shirt from "Abercrombie" that was no doubt made in some third world sweat shop for 3 cents priced at $50?

it's just a new way for people to make money. i'm sure it has something to do with paying for the company's overhead, considering there still aren't too many company's that make clothing for dogs.
Most specialty stores charge more than super centers, so you might want to try Walmart, Target or even Sears or Macy's for better prices.

Very few people buy dog clothing. It is not worth it for them to make such a small sample unless they jack up the price.

Why do people insist on dressing their dogs in clothing like they are dolls not dogs? Treat your dog like a dog please!

Because its part of the fad..ya know? It's for all the wanna bees Paris Hilton and other celebs that dress their doggies in silly outfits and tout them. And little girlies are influenced by them and so they will pay anything to dress up their dogs. I've seen some stuff for under $10 before- sweaters and junk and off season "dog apparel".

But they do have to pay for the material, workers, shipping, a lot of things do go into the cost of making it and getting it to the shelf. Wal mart has cheaper clothing- some cheap looking but some not so cheap looking.

Now I obviously I'm not a wanna be celebs, I'm not a little girl influenced by media. My yorkie does wear a sweater for cooler weather when he's outside as it gets VERY cold here. It's nothing silly. He don't get decked out in a complete outfit-i've seen freaking dog pjs for goodness sakes!-. It's not pink and glittery or blue and glittery. My dog is NOT a glamour/glamor[seen it spelled both ways] dog!
